Traditional SEO tools vs AI visibility tools — what iGaming teams need from each
Rank trackers measure positions; AI visibility tools measure mentions inside answers. What each covers for casino and sportsbook brands, and where they overlap.
What each one measures
| Traditional SEO tools | AI visibility tools | |
|---|---|---|
| Unit | A ranking position for a keyword | A mention or citation inside an answer |
| Surface | Search results pages | Chat assistants and AI search features |
| Input | Keywords, often with search volume | Prompts or questions |
| Stability | Positions move, but are reproducible | Answers vary from one run to the next |
| Competitor view | Who ranks around you | Who's named alongside you |
| Mature reporting standard | Yes | Not yet |
Where they overlap
- Sources. The third-party pages that rank well for "best casino" queries are often the same pages AI models read and cite. Backlink and content data from an SEO tool helps you understand both.
- Demand. Keyword volume is the best available proxy for what players ask, whether they type it into Google or into an assistant.
- Technical access. If AI crawlers can't read your pages, you can't be cited. Several SEO suites now audit for this.
Where SEO tools stop
A rank tracker can tell you your bonus page is third for a phrase. It can't tell you that when a player asks an assistant the same thing in a full sentence, the answer names four brands and yours isn't one of them. Search Console can't see that interaction at all.
Where AI visibility tools stop
AI visibility tools don't replace backlink analysis, technical audits or keyword research, and most don't attempt to. They also inherit a problem rank trackers don't have: answer variance. A tool that runs each question once and reports the result as fact is reporting noise.
The suites are converging — does that settle it?
Both big SEO suites now sell AI visibility. Semrush offers an AI Visibility Toolkit as an add-on, with daily prompt tracking and an AI Visibility Score benchmarked against automatically chosen competitors.[1] Ahrefs Brand Radar runs a large index of prompts modelled from its keyword database, plus custom prompt tracking.[2]
For many teams that's enough, and the convenience is real. For a regulated gambling operator, two gaps remain. Neither suite's public pages mention checking recommended brands against a licence register.[1][2] And a cross-industry tool chooses its own competitor set and question base; in a market with a fixed, known list of licensed brands, you want to measure exactly that list on questions players in that market ask.
A practical stack for a licensed operator
- Your existing SEO suite — rankings, links, technical health, keyword demand. Keep it.
- Its AI add-on, if you have one — a cheap, broad read on AI visibility across many topics.
- A market specialist — for the board-level questions: who do models recommend in our regulated market, how sure are we, and are those brands licensed?
miraindex.ai sits in the third slot. It doesn't track rankings, links or site health — that's your SEO tool's job — and it doesn't try to.
